Introduction to Humanist Pastoral Care

An introduction to humanist pastoral care. A one day workshop where participants will be taught about the rise of humanist pastoral care within the UK and the Netherlands. Emphasis will be placed on what humanist pastoral care is and to look at the similarities and differences with psychotherapeutic practices. The workshop will teach skills that are required for a pastoral carer and to consider the ethical dilemmas that may arise. The workshop will also touch upon chaplaincy work within the UK within healthcare settings. Practical examples will be discussed and participants will partake in triads training sessions which are supported by using real-life case studies.
Lindsay van Dijk is the first lead chaplain of a NHS Trust within the UK. She has obtained her BA and MA at the University of Humanistic Studies in the Netherlands to become an accredited humanist pastoral carer. She has recently obtained her accreditation as Humanist Funeral Celebrant.
