About the Course
- Available Study Modes
Course Description
This short course aims to enable students interested in facilitating supportive practices [mentoring, reflective practice, supervision and spiritual direction] for colleagues in pastoral care and chaplaincy settings. Students will learn about the different mentoring, reflective practice, supervision and spiritual direction models currently available and will be encouraged to critically appraise these models and develop the practice skills to support others in the practice of existential pastoral care/chaplaincy. Ethical issues, managing resources, reflecting on bias and the ability to self-appraise own practice in the role of facilitator, mentor and supervisor will also be addressed. There will be plenty of opportunities for engaging in practical exercises and discussion, for example:
“What is unique about the existential approach to mentoring, reflective practice and supervision for pastoral care/chaplaincy”
“How does spiritual direction fit with models of mentoring, reflective practice and supervision?”
“What specific skills are needed to support colleagues and students?”
This short course can be taken as a standalone course offering 30 hours of tuition.
A 2000-word reflective assignment will be optional for those studying with The Existential Academy
