Delivering Therapy Online

  • Online
  • 13th Aug '20 11.00 am – 1.00 pm

Many households across cultures and societies in the world have access to the Internet. The internet is seen to be useful in shopping, banking, entertainment, booking holidays and maintaining contact with friends and family. Technological developments over the past decade have touched most Professions, perhaps most predominant in the Corporate sector as well as the Tourism industry.

This trend is also picking up in the field mental health and wellbeing, as evident by the increasing number of online counselling services. Despite the growth of online counselling, it is not necessarily the case that theorists have had the opportunity to frame a cohesive understanding of what it means to perform therapy online. This is largely due to limitations of the existing body of research on the topic. Nevertheless, with more practitioners attempting to offer psychological support via the internet and more demand for Online Therapy either due to global circumstances or clients’ personal choice, it is imperative that we understand how the therapeutic relationship develops and is maintained in an online environment.

The workshop will focus on:

  1. Framework for evaluation: Thee 3 stage evaluative model of common factors in therapy.

  2. Online Therapy and the Therapeutic Alliance.
  3. Online Therapy in Practice
  4. Cultural Implications and Client Factors : Open discussion
  5. Questions from the audience

Dr Shilpa Sreenath is a UK trained Counselling Psychologist with 12 years of experience working in the field of mental health & well being.

She is now in Bangalore, India after having studied and worked in Scotland for 11 years. Upon returning to her hometown, Shilpa chose to carry on working privately as an independent practitioner. Her network of existing (UK based) clients necessitated the use of online communication portals. This enabled her to provide continued support to overseas clients whilst ensuring a steady source of income to establish her local clinical practice.

An approach to service delivery that stemmed out of necessity in January 2018 is now a niche therapeutic modality for her.

Shilpa delivers Online Therapy and Mental Health Workshops to individuals based in Australia, Egypt, UK, USA, India, HongKong and UAE.

Shilpa's identity and professional stance as a Counselling Psychologist is underpinned by three decades of cross-cultural life experiences. This has shaped her understanding of and learning from diverse economic and socio-cultural contexts to body-mind-soul alignment and holistic living.
